It combines your MCQ result with scores from the Synthesis Essay, Rhetorical Analysis Essay and Argument Essay to produce an estimated composite score and AP score from 1 to 5.
The AP English Language and Composition exam includes a multiple-choice section and a free-response section.
The multiple-choice section contributes 45% of the exam score, while the three free-response questions together contribute 55%.
The calculator converts both sections to weighted values and combines them into a composite score out of 100.
The resulting composite score is then used to estimate an AP score from 1 to 5.

AP score cutoffs are not fixed publicly for every exam form, so this calculator uses estimated composite-score ranges to provide a planning result.

These ranges are estimates for practice and planning, not official College Board score cutoffs.
The multiple-choice section accounts for 45% of the estimated composite score, while the three free-response essays together account for 55%.
This means strong essay performance can have a major effect on the final estimate. At the same time, improving the number of correct multiple-choice answers can raise the composite score quickly because each additional correct answer contributes directly to the weighted MCQ result.
