What Is an APUSH Score Calculator?

An APUSH Score Calculator estimates your AP U.S. History score from your performance across the multiple-choice, short-answer, document-based question and long-essay sections.

It converts each section into its weighted contribution and combines them into an estimated composite score and AP score from 1 to 5.

  1. Enter the number of multiple-choice questions you answered correctly.
  2. Enter your total short-answer points.
  3. Enter your DBQ score.
  4. Enter your Long Essay score.

How APUSH Scoring Works

The AP U.S. History exam combines four scored components. The multiple-choice section contributes 40% of the exam score, short-answer questions contribute 20%, the DBQ contributes 25% and the Long Essay contributes 15%.

The calculator converts each raw section result into its weighted value and adds those values together to estimate a composite score out of 100.

APUSH Score Formula

MCQ Weighted Score = (Correct Answers ÷ 55) × 40
SAQ Weighted Score = (Short Answer Points ÷ 9) × 20
DBQ Weighted Score = (DBQ Score ÷ 7) × 25
LEQ Weighted Score = (Long Essay Score ÷ 6) × 15
Composite Score = MCQ + SAQ + DBQ + LEQ Weighted Scores

Why DBQ and SAQ Performance Matters

The written-response sections account for a large portion of the estimated APUSH score. The short-answer questions contribute 20%, while the DBQ contributes another 25%.

This means improvements in written responses can significantly raise the composite score even if your multiple-choice performance stays the same.
